Range Setup |
This function governs whether or not punches are processed for both scheduled and unscheduled employees. Punches before or after the times specified in the Clock Rules function will not be accepted by the clock unless the Company Administrator has specified Allowed and Grace rules in Global>Range Setup. With the Allowed Range Groups Setup feature in Range Setup, a Company Administrator can create Allowed and Grace rules for different employees within the same division and on the same clock.
Selecting Range Setup from the Global menu displays the Range Setup page.
When selected , the system automatically creates a shift whenever an unscheduled employee clocks in. The Employee does not have to be scheduled separately in Vision. |
|
The default meal time set in the Position Master in Vision is enabled for the dynamic shift. |
Handling of the Default Meal Time in the Position Master depends on the Options field in the Vantage tab of the Division Settings. If Preserve Meal Duration is selected: Vision records the Meal Time as the default (.5 hours) regardless of the meal time actually taken (1:19). |
|
If Actual Vantage Clock Time is Applied is selected: Vision records the Meal Time as the actual time taken (1:19). If Apply Rounding Rule is selected: Vision applies the specified rounding Rule to the clock Start and End times for the meal, then subtracts the rounded Start time from the rounded End time to derive the meal’s Duration. |
Locating ShiftsSelect where Val Link should look for a schedule when an employee punches. Note The system will always try to locate an employee’s open shift in the following order: |

Allowed and Grace RulesThese rules are implemented on a Division-by-Division basis. Select from the Division drop-down the Division affected by the related Allowed and Grace Rules. |
The Allowed Range Groups Setup feature allows a Company Administrator to create Allowed and Grace rules for different employees within the same division and on the same clock.
AllowedThe Create Groups tab in the Clock Rules function allows an authorized user to create device groups and specify the scheduled range for using the assigned devices in time and attendance transactions. |
The Allowed rule function enables the Company Administrator to define, for the specified Division:
How long before and after the shift Start time an employee can still punch in.
How long before and after the shift End time an employee can still punch in.
How long before and after the meal time an employee can still punch in.
Punches before or after the times specified will not be accepted by the clock and result in an exception displayed in the Exceptions tab of Clock Records.
In the example above:
An ”in” punch earlier than 06:00, or later than 10:00, is outside the ”Allowed Start Range” and will not be accepted by the clock.
An ”out” punch earlier than 10:00, or later than 22:00, is outside the ”Allowed End Range” and will not be accepted by the clock.
GraceThis is the number of minutes before/after the actual start or end of a shift considered to be ”on time”. If an employee clocks in or out within the Grace period (see below), their actual punch time is recorded as the scheduled Start or End time, as applicable. |
|
In the example above, the Grace period is set at 5 minutes for both Shift Start and Shift End.
An employee clocking in between 07:55 and 08:05 is considered to Start their shift on time at 08:00.
An employee clocking out between 3:55 and 4:05 is considered to End their shift on time at 4:00.
Maximum Shift LengthNote This parameter applies only when Company Dynamic Shift Creation is allowed.
The Company Administrator can specify the maximum shift length. If an employee's shift exceeds this length (the employee has not entered a "Shift End" transaction when expected), including any grace period, Val Link automatically enters a "Shift End" the next time the employee punches – and sets the shift to one minute, resulting in an Exception. (Exception transactions are displayed in the Transactions tab of the Clock Records function.
|
Note When set to zeroes, the automatic shift end function is disabled. |
Vision ExampleIf a Maximum Shift Length is exceeded, an example of the impact on the Vision schedule is as follows:
Employee Buford failed to punch at "shift end" on Thursday, 12/6:
The employee's next punch was at 08:59 on Friday:
ValLink automatically enters a "Shift End" (and sets the shift to one minute) for the Thursday shift that exceeded the maximum length: |
If Web Clock was used to enter punches, the exception appears on the Exceptions tab.
